  6.         Determining Win32s version
  7. ========================================================================
  8. You can determine which version of Win32s you have in one of two ways:
  9.     - Check the WIN32S.INI file in your Windows system directory.
  10.     - If you are running Windows for Workgroups, select the WIN32S16.DLL 
  11.       file from the Windows system directory in File Manager. Then from 
  12.       the File menu, choose Properties. The Version line contains the 
  13.       major version and the build number.

  16.         Removing Win32s
  17. ========================================================================
  18. To remove the Win32s, do the following:
  19.  
  20. 1. Remove the following line from the [386Enh] section in the SYSTEM.INI 
  21.    file:
  22.  
  23.       device=<WINDOWS>\<SYSTEM>\win32s\w32s.386
  24.  
  25.    where <WINDOWS> and <SYSTEM> are where the Windows and System
  26.    directories are, respectively.

  28. 2. Remove winmm16.dll from the following line from the [BOOT] section in 
  29.    the SYSTEM.INI file:
  30.  
  31.       drivers=mmsystem.dll winmm16.dll
  32.  
  33. 3. Delete the following files from the <WINDOWS>\<SYSTEM> subdirectory:
  34.       W32SYS.DLL
  35.       WIN32S16.DLL
  36.       WIN32S.INI
  37.  
  38. 4. Delete all the files in the <WINDOWS>\<SYSTEM>\WIN32S subdirectory.
  39.    Then delete the subdirectory itself.

  41. 5. Restart Windows.

  44.         Obtaining Win32s
  45. ========================================================================
  46. Here's how you can obtain the Win32s version 1.20, which Microsoft 
  47. refers to as application note PW1118:
  48.  
  49.   To obtain this Application Note (number PW1118) and the files
  50.   included with it, download PW1118.EXE, a self-extracting file,
  51.   from the Microsoft Software Library (MSL) on the following services:
  52.    - CompuServe
  53.         GO MSL
  54.         Search for PW1118.EXE
  55.         Display results and download
  56.    - Microsoft Download Service (MSDL)
  57.         Dial (206) 936-6735 to connect to MSDL
  58.         Download PW1118.EXE
  59.    - Internet (anonymous FTP)
  60.         ftp ftp.microsoft.com
  61.         Change to the \SOFTLIB\MSLFILES directory
  62.         Get PW1118.EXE
